At MotorSkins and the Smart Textile Hub by BORN, we develop technologies at the intersection of smart textiles, soft robotics and embedded electronics.

BORN GmbH is a manufacturer of technical and smart flat-knit textiles, with production sites in Germany and Poland. The Smart Textile Hub is BORN’s R&D unit, focused on integrating electronics into textile structures. In 2025, BORN acquired MotorSkins, a company specialized in soft robotics and pneumatic systems. Together, they form the Berlin-based team behind this role, combining textile, electronics and soft robotics expertise under one roof.

Our work spans the full innovation cycle, from early research and rapid prototyping to industrial development and production, through a combination of industrial client projects and European R&D collaborations.

We’re looking for a hands-on Project Engineer to join our Berlin team. As one of the first engineers on this team, you’ll have a direct hand in shaping our workflows, tools and technical culture from scratch.

You’ll become part of a small, highly motivated multidisciplinary team developing technologies across areas such as medical wearables, personal protective equipment, automotive human–machine interfaces and soft robotic systems.

What you’ll do

• Develop functional prototypes, demonstrators and MVPs.
• Integrate electronics into textile-based systems.
• Select, test and integrate sensors, actuators, pumps, valves and embedded electronics.
• Build, test and iterate prototypes.
• Work directly with smart textiles, inflatable systems and textile manufacturing processes.
• Support the technical development of industrial and European R&D projects.
• Contribute to technical documentation, experiments and project deliverables.

We’re looking for someone who

• Holds a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronical or Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Biomedical Engineering, Robotics, Product Development, Design Engineering or a related field.
• Has around 2–5 years of experience in R&D, product development or advanced prototyping.
• Enjoys building physical systems and turning ideas into working prototypes.
• Feels comfortable working across electronics, mechanics, textiles and experimentation.
• Enjoys the variety of early-stage product development, from researching technical solutions and building prototypes to testing, iterating and bringing ideas to life.
• Is proactive, curious and enjoys taking ownership.
• Speaks English fluently (German is a plus).
